Nina Simone’s words resonate with my raison d’etre: ‘You can’t help it. An artist’s duty, as far as I’m concerned, is to reflect the times’’
My inspiration for creating this body of work has been the incredible acts of bravery by the elderly, the vulnerable, and those managing their daily lives in a war torn environment in Ukraine. The sunflowers represent to me an element of solidity in the natural environment, vibrancy of colour and the freedom to grow amongst the chaos of war.
